Monthly Newsletter - October 2024

The month of October signifies lots of change. As the days slowly start to draw in with the changing of the clocks and the temperature dropping to mark the slow arrival of winter, we said a farewell to some of our horses going on their holidays and anticipate the arrival of the next generation.

October's Runner Highlights

With the end of the flat season this month, we only sent out a few runners.

TRANSPARENT made an exciting debut on 23rd October to finish 2nd at Kempton. Finley Marsh was steering the 2 year old colt over the seven furlong distance. Drawn in stall 10, the pair picked up in the straight to challenge the leader, just being caught out by lack of racecourse experience. He is definitely ‘one to watch’ as he gains more experience. TRANSPARENT is owned by the Transparent Syndicate and is by Mehmas, out of the Lope De Vega mare, Light Glass.

WHIZZ BY made her nursery debut a winning one on 24th October when crossing the line almost two lengths in front of her rivals. P J McDonald was in the saddle over the seven furlong distance at Southwell. Jumping from the stalls, the two year old filly was in amongst the action and coming round the bend, she was able to get a clear run to be first past the post. WHIZZ BY is by New Bay, out of the Desert Prince mare, Whazzis. She races for owners Fitorfat Racing 1 and was bred by New England Stud and Mount Coote Stud.

SHADY BAY (pictured above) won on her handicap debut on 31st October when getting her head in front at Southwell. Saffie Osborne was steering the filly for the 1m 3f distance and the pair settled on the outside of the leader. On swinging for home, they got a clear run to the finish, winning by a length. The three-year-old filly is by New Bay, out of the Rahy mare, Soft Lips. She is owned by P Afia, E Hobson, A Pegley, C & R Russell.

Knockalla

On 30th September we unfortunately lost Knockalla (pictured in front below) in a tragic road accident. Luckily her rider, Georgie Norton, walked away with minimal physical damage.

The stables, and the wider community, were saddened and shook up by the incident and it has been reported in the local news. ITV meridian, alongside a couple of radio shows, got in contact with Tom to discuss how road safety and horses can be improved in and round Lambourn, ensuring that some positive action can be taken from this awful event.
