Monthly Newsletter - July 2024

Another busy month here at Whitehouse Stables! The sun shined and our winners began to flow again putting smiles back on everyone’s faces. Read on to find out more about the recent news and highlights from the team…

July's Runner Highlights

After a quieter month of June, the horses put their best foot forward and returned back to form. July was filled with lots of educational runs for the two-year-olds gaining handicap marks, alongside plenty of action with the older horses.

Our first winner of the month was SNEAKY BLINDER (pictured below) on Saturday 13th July at Salisbury. He was sent off as the 5/4 favourite under Trevor Whelan, and got bumped going round the bend. The three year old gelding was prominent on the outside throughout and led from over 1f out, winning impressively by almost 4 lengths. The addition of head gear certainly paid off for his patient owners, The Sneaky Blinder Syndicate. The handicapper has raised him 5lb and there is still plenty of fun to be had with him. SNEAKY BLINDER is by Magna Grecia, out of the French Olympic Glory mare, Nouvelle Voie. He was purchased at the Arqana Breeze Up sales in May last year.

It wasn't long before LADY DREAMER (pictured below) followed up with another win at Wolverhampton on 15th July. Racing over six furlongs under P J McDonald, the four-year-old filly was familiar with the course and distance having won here previously in November 2023. The daughter of Dandy Man settled with the pace up front in first time blinkers. She got into a bit of trouble round the bend but fought hard and was first past the post winning by a neck. LADY DREAMER has given owner, Mr Arjun Waney, plenty of fun having race a total of 19 times, and she has been placed or won on 10 of these starts. There is definitely more excitement to come for the remainder of the season with her. She is declared for the 6 furlong Racing League race on 1st August back at Wolverhampton.

STATE FLAG (pictured below) rounded off the month with a win at Newbury over seven furlongs with Trevor Whelan on board on the 25th July. The three year old filly was in the mix up the straight, tracking the leaders before the quartet battled it out, with STATE FLAG getting her head in front. The brave filly is by US Navy Flag, out of the Refuse To Bend mare, Uele River and races for owners, Ebury Racing 3. This was her second win this year and she is another filly that will be plenty of fun for her owners for the rest of the year.

Meet The Team - Jemma Marshall

Age & Where are you from: 41 from East Sussex

Your role at Tom Ward Racing
: Head Travelling Lass

How long have you worked for Tom
: 4 years in October

Favourite Horse:
I can’t pick a favourite horse in the yard at the moment but I think it would have to be Luisa Casati aka Moose (pictured) as she was unique in so many ways. She was sold in December 2023.

Favourite Racing Moment:
It would have to be when I led up Secret Brief to win the Lincoln in 2016 when I worked for Godolphin. He then went on to have a successful second career with me after he finished racing.

If you had a fully paid trip to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
This is a tricky one… I think it would have to be St Lucia, as I always wanted to go as a kid, or to the Bahamas to see the pigs on the beach. They look cool.

If you had one superpower, what would it be?
Another tricky one! I want to be able to sing, but that’s not classed as a super power so it would have to be to predict the future.

News - Visits, Visits and more Visits!

As the sun shined, many of our owners took the opportunity to come and visit their horses and see them on the gallops.

We also had members of the HEROS charity come by and experience a behind the scenes look into a flat racing yard. They had a tour of the yard and up onto the gallops, as well as a chat with Tom on how the horses are trained and some tips on the current horses in training.

Hot To Trot visited their 2-year-old filly by Mohaather, SKELLIG ISLE. She was side lined for a few days, but still enjoyed plenty of attention and photos from her visitors. Members of the syndicate enjoyed a trip up the gallops as well as feasting on croissants and coffee in the owners lounge. It was a lovely morning had by all.

Velocity Racing also visited the yard on the 27th July to see their filly, STAGE DIVA. Fifteen members of her syndicate arrived to get up close and personal with the filly as well as heading up the gallops to watch her work. The fun didn’t stop there though as they then went on a short bike ride around the local area and ended up in The Queen’s Arms for a spot of lunch! There are still shares available in this fun syndicate, email [email protected] to find out more information.

Just around the corner…

Are you looking for your next superstar? Perhaps you have never thought about racehorse ownership or are only looking for a small percentage of a horse? Or maybe you’re an owner/breeder and are looking for ways to improve your broodmare’s page?

Sales season is fast approaching…We can help you!

Between them, Tom and Alex have a vast range of experience with bloodstock & breeding. There have been many success stories from Whitehouse Stables of horses being bought at the sales, racing successfully for many years and sold on for more than double their value. One of these is LUISA CASATI, a Listed winning mare rated 105 having arrived as a yearling from Tattersalls December Yearling sale and purchased for 30,000gns. She won over £60,000 whilst in training and was sold privately for £150,000. DIAMOND BAY(pictured below) is another great example. Still in training and a testament to the method in which he is trained, a now 6-year-old he was purchased at Tattersalls Book 3 sale for 17,000gns as a yearling and has won his owners almost £120,000. Horses at Whitehouse Stables are happy and looked after well so that they are able to continue their careers for many years beyond the usual two year racing career.

Tom and Alex will be attending all the major sales in the UK and in Ireland. The first one, Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in Doncaster, is less than a month away - 27th August - and now is the time to start thinking about your next superstar. Tom and Alex are always on hand to help and advise on the purchase of any yearling or horse in training. Get in touch now if you would like more information on how we can help you.
