Monthly Newsletter - August 2024
There was plenty of action for August, both on the track and at Whitehouse Stables as sales season kicks off at Doncaster. Tom and Alex have been actively buying yearlings at both Goffs Doncaster and Tattersalls Somerville sales. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on the yearlings purchased coming soon.
August's Runner Highlights
SKELLIG ISLE (pictured above) started the month off with a bang, as she got her head in front at Nottingham over five furlongs.
Showing plenty of determination on 1st August, she fought off the challengers to win on her third time of asking. Hot out the stalls, the 2-year-old daughter of Mohaather was given a prominent ride from PJ McDonald. She rallied hard and was first past the post by a neck. Bred by Bumble Bloodstock Ltd, Skellig Isle has improved with each start and looks to be a filly with plenty of promise for the future. She is owned by Hot To Trot Racing and is out of the Tobougg mare, Kerry’s Dream.
CRYSTAL FLYER put in a brave performance to get her head in front on the 24th August under Saffie Osborne.
The pair travelled comfortably behind the leader, and the 3 year old fillly fought hard at the finish to win by 3/4 length. She is now 2-2 over course and distance at Goodwood. Crystal Flyer is by Magna Grecia, out of the Montjeu mare, Mount Crystal. She races for Matthew Webber and was purchased at Tattersalls Book 1 for 42,000gns.
LADY DREAMER won impressively at Lingfield on 27th August over seven furlongs. Under Oisin Murphy, the four year old filly was quick away from the stalls to take the lead and remained prominent throughout the race. Around the final bend, she was not willing to let any of the field come close to her winning by a length and a half. Lady Dreamer is by Dandy Man, out of the Acclamation mare, Weekend Getaway. This win takes her to two this season taking her tally to four in her career. She is owned by Mr Arjun Waney.

Diary’s at the ready, you’re NOT going to want to miss this… An exclusive first look at this year’s Class of 2024…
Join us on Sunday 17th November for the Tom Ward Racing Yearling Parade.
The sales have only just started but we’ve been busy analysing catalogues, viewing yearlings and working hard in the sales ring. We are sure there’s a superstar amongst this bunch we’re buying and we want you to join us for a first look at this Class of 2024.
A Look at Hot To Trot
Following the success of Skellig Isle at the beginning of the month, and previous success with Listed winning filly Roman Mist (pictured below), we sat down with Sam Hoskins from Hot To Trot Racing.
Tell us a little bit more about the syndicate.
We are an affordable racing syndicate that leases well bred fillies to race with leading trainers. We put on a lot of events for our social group of members and do our best to make it a lot of FUN!
Favourite HTT horse (past or present).
Heartache that won the 2017 Queen Mary for us at Royal Ascot.
How did you get into racing and setting up HTT.
My grandmother had a jumps horse in training when I was about 10/11 called Errant Knight. He won 16 races and this started the ‘addiction’!
Roman Mist was fantastic for the syndicate, what other successes have you had over the years?
Roman Mist was the most wonderful filly and Tom did such a good job taking her from a rating in the 60’s to a Group 3 filly, giving everyone in Hot To Trot so much fun to boot. Heartache, Heartwarming, Kurious, Get Ahead and Rage Of Bamby have also taken us to Group race level but any winner is great in our book!

If you weren't in racing, what do you think you would be doing instead?
Cricket is my second love and I’d love to commentate on it. Jonathan Agnew-esque!
Diesel is Ready for the Dames
The 29th August was a very exciting day for our in-house club, run by Alex, as their filly LADY DIESEL made her long-awaited debut on the track at Newbury. The two year old filly gave a solid effort under Hollie Doyle and she will have learnt a lot to build on from the experience for her next run. The ladies thoroughly enjoyed their day out watching their filly run and look forward to her next start in the near future!
Sponsored by Pink Diesel Wine, The Racing Dames is a ladies-only club run by Alex that has so much more to offer than just a day at the races. They also organise events such as Christmas wreath making, pilates and even a shopping trip!
There is a lot more fun to be had with LADY DIESEL and the Racing Dames. Membership renewal is just around the corner, so if you would like to get involved email [email protected] or [email protected]
